Bumped up to the intermediate group!

I took the Ducati out to another track day this past Sunday (7/23/17) at Heartland Park Topeka. The temperature was sweltering but it was still a great time.

I started off in the Novice group, but after a few sessions an instructor told me I had to go up to the Intermediate group. All I can say is the traffic tends to move at a much quicker pace!

I did have one “off,” which provided enough excitement for the day. Skip forward to the 15:00 minute mark to see it.

I noticed another rider up ahead that had gone off the track, and in that second of distraction, I totally screwed up the turn and went off myself. Luckily everything turned out alright!

This was my third track day, and I think I’m hooked. So much fun!

Nice job! I’ve been to Gratten here in MI twice so far, hoping to go again this summer. Track riding is addicting, so much fun to finally see and feel just what these bikes can do in their environment.

I heard tire screech. never good noise on a bike.

Yeah. That was around the same time I decided to give the front brake a rest.

Nice! The 996 sounds awesome! I’m headed to Putnam Park outside of Indianapolis for a 2 day track day this weekend. It’ll be my second time at the track and I can’t wait!

Nice job on not losing it in the grass.... I’d be pretty disappointed in you if you jacked up your 996!!!!

I’m in the process of replacing the clutch hub on my 748

Oh yeah? Did it have some nice grooves from the clutch plates?

the hub? not so much. The basket though gets it pretty hard over the miles

Oh, my bad. I thought you meant the basket. Do you have an open clutch cover on your bike? I’ve thought about put one on to see the magic work.

Yes, I do.

One of the clutch spring posts just fucking sheared off. I made my own clutch holding tool

Ugh. It’s always something.

The previous owner of my bike installed a Sigma slipper clutch and I haven’t had problems yet. I’m thinking some new plates are on the horizon though.

I’ll be riding a double header at high plains in two weeks on the 675R. Possibly buying a KTM 450 Supermoto off a friend too.

Nice! I bet that 675R is such a great track bike. Good luck on the KTM purchase, that would be fun no doubt.

Are you getting that 450 from Steve at Mad Moto? Also 675R for the win!

Nope. This one is freshly rebuilt. Brand new crate engine with the wide ratio gearbox.

The heat wasn’t particularly enjoyable, but the rest of the weekend was great otherwise, largely on account of breaking into the top 5 overall (out of 90ish participants) for the first time. I’m definitely going to have to get out on that nice new track at some point.

Haha yeah I got them from mad moto, they are one of the few suits that actually fit me. One of the few times it sucks to be tall lol. When I lived out there I was at his shop all the time. The 450 was one of the cooler builds ive seen.

The guy im buying the 450 off of has two sets. One of them is the White and blue ones made only for the California Superbike school instructors. No idea how he got his hands on them.

Would love to see some pictures if you got any, that sounds so cool! Its been a minute since I have been in the CO racing scene as I moved to Atlanta for school 2 years ago. How long have you been racing your 675r? I can remember a guy in SuperStreet that was on a 675r. Curious if that was you haha

The two of us are riding tomorrow. I’ll see if i can get a photo of the suit. I’m not from CO, we roadtrip down to high plains for track days. My local racing association only “races” at Brainerd and Road America but I do track days outside that. 675R is considered a middleweight (along with the typical 600cc sport bikes) in our association.

High Plains is such an amazing track! love the elevation on it, The 675 really excels there. The back straight is a little tough but you can make up the room on the 1000cc bikes on turn 4 and 5 into Dannys lesson. How Is Road America On the 675?

Looking forward to tracking my Miata soon, got everything built for it finally! I cant imagine doing it on a motorcycle though, seems so scary haha. But I imagine that has to be the most fun you could have on any amount of wheels though.

TWO WHEELS GOOD!

The first few outings on the track it’s a bit nerve wracking, but by the end of the day it feels pretty normal! You will have a great time at the track.

Yeah ive gotten to the point where autocross feels so normal and I just dont get enough seat time. So its time to try a real track and learn some more about driving to the limit. Ridiculously nervous about putting the car in a wall or something but thats why I drive a cheap Miata and not a 90,000 sports car lol. As long as I take an instructor and learn slowly, im sure I will grow to love it.

I guess instructors on a motorcycle arent a thing, thats probably the scariest idea to me, just going it alone the first time haha.
